New Deck motor mount

New Deck motor mount

Postby AZExpedition » Wed Jul 03, 2013 12:13 pm

Hi

what kind of motor mount do the new deck boats have? WD is not answering/returning calls and would like to find perhaps a "custom" one.
Few pics of the back of the boat - and none with a motor. I live where the wind is predictably unpredictable.

Thx
Mike

I have a "classic" deck boat and sail it mostly in Colorado where the "breezes" can be unpredictable. I usually race with the outboard on the stern because bringing it up from below and mounting it in the sort of situation where it's vital is highly precarious and time consuming at best.
If I had a new deck, I think I'd come up with a mount that allowed complete attachment before hinging it down to the water. Something that mounted to the aft part of the cockpit sole rather than the transom...
Good Luck,
Mike

One of these days I'll get a picture of mine posted. It was built by Mel Morrison (Morrison Marine/Inland Sailing in Rancho Cordova).

It's a flat plate with some aluminum stock extending aft with a motor mount at the end and bolts to the cockpit sole. I've actually only used it once, but it did work fine.

A picture would be nice. I think it is probably like a melges 24 mount. They seem to be the same price.

Nice - finally a picture. This may be the only one in existence.

Inland sailing had one left, and I got it. now I know how to prepare for the arrival.

Thanks
