Tunas Celebrate at Arizona’s Birthday Regatta

Oklahoma sailors Blake Kelso, Allen Kelso and daughter Hayden on #413 (Ugly Tuna Cantina) attended an away event for the first time since they got their boat and finished in 3rd place, an excellent job by the Kelso family.  My team, #920 with crew Flint Johnson and Mitch Moses sailed Fayest to a first place finish in two of the four races.  Winds were 0 to 18 on both days. Dennis McMillen lost crew because of the cold and had to retire the last two races.

The real success story is we missed the ice and snow by leaving before it hit and came back just as I-40 was clearing. There was ice everywhere except on the interstate. Were we lucky?

Our hats go off to the race management folks at Arizona Yacht Club.  They did their usual outstanding job managing six different starts and seven different fleets. The temperature made camping a challenge the second night, but it was so much warmer than being at home.  Plan to attend this one next year.  It is a great break from the winter cold… usually.

We are looking forward to the spring, Oklahoma’s centennial year, and our 2007 Oklahoma S20 National event.
