Hot Rum Regatta

Thanks to all of you the raced on Santana 20s in the Hot Rum Regatta this last weekend. Over the two days, there was some fun and good racing. Conditions Saturday were overcast with some light rain at times and wind out of the South at 8-12 with puffs to 14ish.

Great to see Ev Meade starting to get up to speed with 110 Nalu leading around the 1st weather mark Saturday. Racing was tight, some round ups; Robert and Linda on Four broke their spin pole. S20 921 Alexa lead thru day with 3 first places followed by S20 110 Naul Ev Meade, then John Porteous.

Conditions Sunday were mostly sunny, wind from 62 degrees, wind at 285, 6-10 puffy. A tough San Diego December day. Pete Hunter came too sail 914 after getting his back cracked. Pete and Eric Kownacki showed how fast the boats can sail and everyone showed great spirit for going sailing with the news weather telling us all to hide indoors. With the largest fleet completing in the regatta, the S20s put on quite the show. Eleven boats taking part  was a nice turn out considering last minute crew cancels, illness (hope your feeling better Liz and Ellen), soft backs, holiday shopping, etc....

Eric Kownacki went for the wire to wire win. That's what happens when you have great crew, a well prepared boat and great course management,1st place with 7 points. Nice 2nd place to John Porteous on Sparky with 26, just edging out 3rd place Dave Wright sailing double handed! Fourth was Ev Meade sailing with a mix of crew over two days, 29 points.
