KYC Firecracker Regatta
July 1st & 2nd, 2006
Hosted by Klammath YC of Klamath Falls, Oregon
Blair Wallace and team Tinkertoy (Team Tinkertoy - Sasha Wallace, Blair Wallace, Chris Rutz) took first place in a very tight Firecracker regatta. Tinkertoy started day two up by one point and edged out Mark Forrest and Team-Q (Stephanie Stano, Scott Forrest, Mark Forrest) by seconds in race four to extend their lead to two. Team-Q stretched out to a big lead in race five, and there were moments of hope with Rick Gilstrap’s Chicken Boat and Nick Genovese’s In-N-Out coming on strong into the last leeward mark. Tinkertoy kept up their terrific upwind speed and finished second to win the regatta.
The wind was varied from one to fifteen, so heading for greater velocity was the order of the day. Contrary to our experience at the 2001 Nationals on Klamath Lake, we found out that the right side of the course is not always the favored.
The food, the people, the weather and the facilities (ie. the bar) were all spectacular. Special thanks also to Hector Rosado for the Mojitos! This continues to be one of the most popular events on Fleet 19s annual circuit. We hope to make it back next year for the Trans Klam or Half Klam long distance races.
