The most recent leg of the informal Southwestern S20 tour found the fleet at Windycrest YC on lake Keystone near Tulsa OK for the Hobcock Tillotson memorial regatta. The weekend brought fantastic sailing conditions with steady winds from 6 -12 knots with just enough oscillation to make it interesting. Several other fleets were having regional events resulting in over 40 boats racing in 5 fleets. Racing in the S20 fleet was close all weekend with usually just a few boat lengths usually separating the fleet. Team Chubasco loaded up the motorhome and made the trip from Colorado to join the Windycrest fleet.
Great RC work allowed 4 races on day 1 and saw close racing with 3 different winners. Team Chubasco (368), IV McNamara (700) and Harvey Baker (598) shared the honors. Brit Williams, on 920, was always in the hunt too. Consistency gave Harvey Baker on 598 the overnight lead by 3 points. Only 5 points separated the whole fleet. After a hard day of racing, the teams retired to the Windycrest Club to partake of the famous Oklahoman hospitality. The hill back to the RV parking area was quite a challenge.
With only 1 race scheduled on Sunday, to allow out-of-towners to travel, 508 was in the driving seat with a 3 point lead. Despite the forecast of light air, the wind was again almost perfect for S20 racing. Team Chubasco got off to a good start but had to overcome penalties and a man overboard to prevail. 598 finished 4th which resulted in a tie score with Chubasco that broke in favor of Chubasco. The 3rd and 4th places were also tied with IV McNamara taking the tiebreaker.
