NOTICE OF RACE

2002 SANTANA 20 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

August 5 to 9, 2002

RULES

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2001 2004, the prescriptions of US SAILING the Santana 20 Class Rules and this Notice and Conditions of Race, except as any of these are altered by the Sailing Instructions. 

1.2 Rule 44.2 will be modified to one 360º turn except for violation of a rule in the two boat length circle.

 

 

2. ADVERTISING

2.1 This regatta is designated an “Invitational Event” in accordance with ISAF Regulations 20.4.4 and 20.10(d). Advertising is restricted to Category A. There shall be no advertising on hulls, sails, spars or equipment except as permitted by ISAF Regulation 20.3.1.

 

3.  ELIGIBILITY

3.1 All Santana 20 Championship entrants must meet all ownership, class membership (including eligibility requirements), class rules and other requirements of this event.

A boat may not protest a boat for the alleged breach of RRS 75.2 with respect to ISAF Regulation 21.1(b). This changes Rule 60.1(a).

 

4. ENTRY

4.1 The entry deadline to avoid a late fee is August 1, 2002.  The event organizer must receive a completed entry form and the entry fee by that date to avoid the late fee of $25.  Entry acknowledgment will be delivered to valid entrants shortly after entry receipt. No entries will be accepted after 1700 PST, Monday, August 5, 2002 without the approval of the Event Director and payment of an additional late fee.

 

5. FEES

5.1 The entry application shall be accompanied by an entry fee. The entry fee, is $100.00 US SAILING requires that any entrant who is not a US SAILING member, pay a additional $10.00 entry fee (to join call 1-800-877-2451 or join online at www.ussailing.org).

5.  EQUIPMENT:

5.1 All entrants must possess a valid measurement certificate for the boat being

5.2 All sails must be measured prior to 1200 of August 6.  Entrants are strongly encouraged to have their sails measured and certified by their local fleet measurer prior to arriving at this event, as sails do not have to be re-measured for this event if previously certified. 

5.2 The same crew and the same four class sails must be used the entire regatta, unless approval for substitution is first obtained from the Jury. 

5.4 All boats shall remain in the water for the duration of the regatta unless approval to haul out is obtained from the Jury. 

5.5 The race committee plans to use marine vhf channel 68 to advise racers of pertinent information on the water (e.g. OCS).

 

7. MEASUREMENTS AND CLASS INFORMATION

The preliminary scratch sheet will be posted on or about August 5. Boats will be measured on Monday from 0800 until 0400 and Tuesday from 0800 until 1100.

 

8. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

8.1 The Sailing Instructions will be posted on the Race Week web page approximately August 1 and will be available at registration.

 

9. RACING AREAS

9.1  The racing area will be approximately ½ mile out from Venice Pier at a 

heading of 235 degrees.

 

10. SCORING

10.1 The low point scoring system found in Appendix A of the RRS will apply, except that each boat’s series score will be the sum of all of her race scores with one discard if 8 races are completed. The lowest series score wins.

10.2    Eight races are scheduled of which three must be completed to constitute a series.

 

11. PRIZES

11.1 Overall series awards, based on the cumulative scores for the event, will be awarded after the final race; the number of trophies awarded will be 8 top finishers.

 

12. AMENDMENTS TO THIS NOTICE

12.1 The event organizer reserves the right to amend this notice. Any amendments of this notice made prior to August 1, 2002 will be mailed to all owners whose entries have been accepted. Amendments will be posted on the Race Week web page and the Official Notice Board. Copies will be available at Race Headquarters.

 

13. LIABILITY RESPONSIBILITY

13.1 The organizers and sponsors bear no responsibility for accidents, damages or injuries to boats or their personnel arising from any cause during races or related activities. Attention is drawn to RRS Part I - Fundamental Rules.

 

13.2 The safety of a boat and its crew is the sole and inescapable responsibility of the Skipper who must ensure that the boat is fully sound, thoroughly seaworthy and manned by an experienced and physically capable crew. Neither the establishment of regulations or inspection of a boat in any way limits or reduces the complete and unlimited responsibility of the Skipper. 

13.3 It is the sole and inescapable responsibility of the Skipper of each boat to decide whether or not to start or continue in any race.                                                             Chairman. Airport and in Santa Monica, which are both a 15 minute drive from DRYC.

 

Local markets have full deli counters for lunches.

Bottom cleaning services will be available each day.

Sail repair services will pick up and deliver each day at the club.

 

5. Docking/Launching

Docking, which is raft-up style, will be coordinated by Eddie Holister. Docking confirmation and location will be provided with your entry acknowledgement. For docking or trailer storage prior to August 5th or after August 10th, contact Eddie Holister. Restrooms are open from 8am until 5pm keys are not available. 

 

Trailer Boat Launching: Trailer boat launching is available at the Del Rey Yacht Club and the county facility at 13465 Fiji Way, Marina Del Rey (corner of Admiralty and Fiji). For specific information on launching, hauling and trailer storage check the Race Week web page or contact Eddie Holister at Del Rey Yacht club.

 

6. Registration

Registration is mandatory for all entrants. The boat’s skipper or representative must register on site and pick up the Sailing Instructions, any amendments and other pertinent information. (See Schedule)

 

7. After-Race Parties

Each evening following racing there will be an evening reception in the P.V room at the Del Rey Yacht Club’s PV Room. There will be a Trophy presentation on Friday afternoon following racing in the outdoor area north of the Bar. Thursday night will be a dinner and Barbeque

In consideration of your acceptance of my entry,  I agree as follows:

I agree to be bound by the Racing Rules of Sailing and by all other rules that govern this event.

I am participating in the regatta voluntarily.  I understand that sailing and yacht racing entails certain inherent risks and dangers to person and property, including the possibility of serious injury or death, and I and my crew accept and assume those risks.

I certify that I am eligible to enter this event. 

I certify that I and my crew are able to swim. 

Any contestant or any member of the race committee or jury may inspect my boat before or after racing.

I hereby release DRYC, the Santana 20 Class Association and the Fleet, together with their officers, directors, agents, employees, volunteers, sponsors and committees from any and all liability for any injury to myself, my crew or my boat arising out of their conduct of the race or use of the facilities, provided that such release does not discharge my insurance carrier under the provisions of insurance policies on my boat.  This waiver shall not be deemed as any indemnity on my part. I acknowledge and agree that the safety and seaworthiness of my boat and its crew, and the decision to race or keep racing, is my sole responsibility, and the event management, in accepting my entry, assumes no responsibility therefore.
