INVITATION:

You are cordially invited to the 1998 Santana 20 National Championships to be held October 13-16, 1998 on Lake Ray Hubbard, 20 miles east of Dallas, Texas. The planned seven-race regatta for Santana 20 Class sloops is hosted by Rush Creek Yacht Club (RCYC) and Santana 20 Fleet 15. This regatta is open to all sailors who belong to the Santana 20 Class Association, who have sailed the necessary qualifying regattas as required in Article IX of the Articles of Association of the Santana 20 Class, and who file proper entry including full payment of the entry fee by 1200, Tuesday, October 13, 1998.

ENTRY FEE and DEADLINE:

A completed registration form accompanied by a check in the amount of $90.00 ($85.00 for US Sailing members) made payable to Santana 20 Fleet 15 must be mailed to Class Association Treasurer, David Rapier, 4517 Allencrest, Dallas, TX 75244 by September 15, 1998. Entries postmarked after this date must include a $15.00 late fee. Skippers will be required to show proof of 1998 Santana 20 Class Association membership at check-in. All registration fees are payable prior to 1200, Tuesday, October 13, 1998.

ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND RELEASE:

Each person, whether boat owner, skipper or crew, by participating in the regatta agrees to sail and use RCYC’s facilities at his or her own risk. And to the fullest extent permitted under Texas law, each person by participating unconditionally and irrevocably releases and discharges Rush Creek Yacht Club and its officers, governing board, members, and agents, and the Rush Creek Educational Fund, and its officers, board of directors, and agents, and all personnel who assist in maintaining equipment and in conducting races, from all claims and legal liability for personal injury, death or property damage caused by negligence. A signed release from will be required at registration.

RULES:

This regatta will be governed by the 1997-2000 edition of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Racing Rules of Sailing, the prescriptions of US Sailing, the rules of the Santana 20 Class Association as put forth in the 1998 Yearbook, this Notice of Race, and the Sailing Instructions.

An appointed Jury will have final authority on all matters. The same crew and the same four class sails must be used the entire regatta. There can be substitutions only with the approval of the Jury. Yachts may not be removed from the water during the regatta without approval of the Jury.

RACING:

The Santana 20 National Championships will consist of as many as seven races, with no throwouts. Three races constitute a Championship, as prescribed in the Guidelines for Conducting the Class Championship Regattas.

SKIPPERS' MEETING:

1230, Wednesday, October 14. Skippers can pick up their race instruction packets in the RCYC clubhouse beginning at 0900, Tuesday, October 13. There will also be a Skippers meeting at 1230, Tuesday, October 13 for the practice races only.

COURSES:

Races will be sailed on Windward Leeward Courses or variations thereof.

PENALTIES:

The 720° Turns Penalty will be in effect.

SCORING:

The Low-Point Scoring System, Appendix A2.2 of the RRS will be used.

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:

The Sailing Instructions will be distributed to qualified entrants at registration.

AWARDS:

First- through fifth-place awards will be provided to skippers.

INSPECTION and MEASUREMENT:

All participants must posses a valid measurement certificate for their yacht. All sails must be measured prior to boat launching Wednesday, October 14. Any Santana Class Association member who is not a member of a recognized fleet may obtain a measurement certificate on measurement day. The top five finishers of each race will be inspected for required equipment at the end of each day's races. Specific requirements for measurement prior to launch will be provided at check-in.
